Andrea R.
I advocate for pediatric cancer because my own cancer experience was not just about going through cancer treatment, but also accessing health care. Prior to my diagnosis, I had not been able to access hospital facilities. Many folks are within similar circumstances are getting by with clinics or home remedies because healthcare isn’t accessible and or affordable. I want people to recognize the humanity in us all and that access to healthcare -general healthcare and specific treatment(s) – should be available to everyone.
I advocate to bring awareness to aspects of cancer that people are misinformed or uncomfortable learning about; for example, bone marrow transplants are not an absolute cure. Media mediums misrepresent cancer by generalizing it with balding when there’s much more to it.
Lastly, I want to connect with my fellow cancer diagnosed folk: Even if we are diagnosed with cancer, we are still very much alive!
